A Community That Learns Together

A willingness to learn from others is a hallmark of UCDS. Faculty and staff form a community that works together to develop new ideas and enhance school operations.

Each teacher at UCDS works collaboratively with members of a teaching team to construct the curricula that will be used in the classroom. The faculty shares teaching methods, materials and assessment techniques. The process of building, implementing, evaluating and revising programs is at the core of UCDS and is required of every faculty member.

Diversity

The UCDS community celebrates differences among individuals. We are committed to providing a work environment that respects diversity and fosters equal employment opportunity. UCDS does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed, political ideology, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, honorably discharged veteran or military status, use of a service animal or any other status or condition protected by local, state or federal law. Resident Teacher Program

Our Resident Teacher Program is specifically designed for new teachers. The Program offers a yearlong, intensive, hands-on teaching experience for beginning teachers. The Resident Teacher Program allows young professionals to engage in all teaching and school-wide responsibilities with the guidance and support of master teachers. In addition to teaching experience and ongoing mentoring, we offer Residents a variety of workshops and other professional development opportunities.

We provide competitive compensation and benefits, and outstanding opportunities for professional growth and development.

Benefits

Sick, Personal and Vacation Leave

Full-time teachers are entitled to 8 days per school year of sick leave, without loss of pay. Full-time administrators are entitled to 10 days per fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

Personal leave is granted at the discretion of the Head of School or Assistant Head of School. In general, administrative staff can receive up to 10 days of personal leave per year.

Teachers do not accrue vacation leave. For year round full-time staff, vacation eligibility is determined once a year on July 1. New employees receive up to 10 days of vacation.

Employees starting mid-year receive monthly-prorated leave.

Holidays and Parental Leave

Full-time employees receive ten paid holidays each year.

UCDS is pleased to offer parental leave benefits to employees who take leave pursuant to the Family Medical Leave Act during the first year following the birth or placement by adoption or foster placement of a child. Full time employees who have been employed over a year prior to the birth or placement by adoption or foster placement of a child may be eligible for parental leave benefits.

UDCS offers health insurance through Regence Blue Shield and dental insurance through MetLife and pays for individual coverage for full-time employees. Resident teachers receive a stipend that is applied toward their selection of insurance.

Other Benefits

Retirement Plan

A retirement plan is available to all eligible teaching staff and administrators through TIAA-CREF. Payroll deductions for the group retirement annuity are voluntary.

For full-time employees, UCDS contributes 3% of the employee’s base salary to the retirement plan. The School will match up to an additional 3% of the base salary if the employee contributes a like amount through payroll reduction.

Tuition Remission

Faculty and administrators who are employed at least .6 FTE or more are eligible to receive a 40% reduction in tuition per year for up to three children attending UCDS Elementary and Early Elementary Programs. The children must meet the school’s admission requirements and will be subject to standard requirements related to re-enrollment.

Professional Development

UCDS encourages faculty and administrators to maintain contact and dialogue with professionals in their fields of interest and expertise. UCDS pays for all faculty and administrative staff to attend the annual conference hosted by the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools, if that conference is held within 200 miles of Seattle.

Health and Wellness Benefit

UCDS offers to employees who work at least .6 FTE a health/wellness benefit each school year.

Employment benefits change over time and UCDS reserves discretion to change or remove benefits as determined by the administration to be necessary.
