For kids 6-12 Years Old

Are you creative? enthusiastic? and have varied interests? Then the UCDS Summer Spark Series is for you! Spark Series is a collection of week-long, focused camps for kids between the ages of six and twelve.

Weekly themes from past years include:

Ultimate Frisbee
Come join UCDS Summer Spark Series Director Chad Randol for an amazing week of Ultimate Frisbee. Chad has played Ultimate competitively for over 12 years and can't wait to share his passion with the next generation. The young athletes in this camp will learn about the wonderful game of Ultimate, actively practice sportsmanship, play actual games, but most of all have FUN! Each Camper will also get an Ultimate Disc to take with them after camp!

Lego Robotics
Spend a week learning about, and experimenting with, the programmable NXT and RCX systems and the latest programming software. Preview and explore a wide variety of materials including the Robolab starter set, Amusement Park, Cities and Transportation, Intelligent House, Simple Machines, Manufacturing Systems, Energy Labs, Pneumatics I & II, and a wide variety of Lego related web resources, CD's, books and publications. Each morning and afternoon session will begin with a whole group instruction/discussion session followed by an open ended discovery and investigation period. Students new to Lego robotics can learn the basics of robotics by following straight forward plans, or they can begin to create their own complex machines that go out and interface with the world.

Chef Camp
Flex your culinary muscles! Theme days, field trips, and foodie fun will abound this week as you plan and prepare meals and treats for every occasion!

Dance
Dance the day away! Our instructors have been dancing for years and are experienced in all types of dance, including: modern, jazz, tap, ballet, theatre choreography and more! Campers will have fun learning new moves and musical interpretation. No experience necessary!

The Whimsical and Wacky Art Week
Join us for a week of wild, whimsical, and wacky art projects. Every day we will have new art stations to make your very own creations. You will have a chance to work with a variety of mediums, go on field trips and try your hand at activities like painting, printmaking, sculpting, and much more!

Adventure Chess
During this fun week of summer UCDS Summer Spark Series Director Chad Randol will lead students to destinations of their choice to play chess. Each camper will get their own traveling chess set! We will hire a bus for the week, pick some cool place to go each day to play chess, explore, and enjoy summer. This is a noncompetitive camp catered to beginning or recreational chess players. We are going to fuse the game of chess into the outdoors of the Puget Sound. No previous chess experience required.

Metal Sculpting
Explore and discover the wide world of metal, from soldering to plasma cutting. Test and see many of the tools involved with welding and safely learn how to make strong structures from recycled materials. You will be making a unique structure of your very own and collaborating to make a spectacular metal sculpture designed by the camp too!

Comic Book Camp
Storyboards, captions, superheroes and villains—let the fun times and hilarity roll! Learn to write and illustrate your own comic books using technology, photos, drawings and text!

Soccer
UCDS Soccer Camp will focus on building basic technical skills, developing large group tactics, and be filled with soccer fun in the sun!

Glass Fusion Camp
Spend a week of fun learning about glass fusing and slumping (melting glass into a mold to form it into a shape.) We will experiment with glass collage and learn glass-cutting techniques along with the use of specialized tools. Campers will create a variety of artworks each day using the different processes learned during the week.

Lifetime Sports Camp
Lifetime Sports camp is going to be a fun and exciting week for all involved! Each day, we will focus on one or two different activities that you will be able to do your entire life. We will be hiking, biking, playing basketball, hitting golf balls, and much more. This camp will show you that being active does not need to be difficult or painful, but instead, exciting and worthwhile. The city of Seattle has plenty of wonderful things to offer, and we are going to take full advantage of that! I can't wait to meet you all and get going on some wonderful adventures!

Electricity Science Camp
Using fun, hands–on activities, we are going to learn what electricity is, how light bulbs work, how to build different kinds of circuits, how simple motors work, and much more. You will be making your own light bulbs, building your own circuit boards, as well as building and wiring your own model houses. Not only are you going to have a lot of fun during this camp, but you will learn a lot as well.

Bike Maintenance, Repair and Expedition Camp
We are going to begin the week learning how to spruce up our bikes, so that we are able to take them on fun adventures throughout the rest of the week. During this class, we will learn how to change a flat tire, put a patch on a tire with a hole in it, lube your chain correctly, fix a broken chain, clean your bike, and much, much more! Get ready to have a great time! See you at camp.

All Sewn Up
Join this summer's sewing FUN! Spend the week learning how to sew or just fine-tuning your sewing skills. A wide variety of materials and projects will be available for each camper to choose from. Kids will learn basic sewing terms, machine and hand sewing skills, as well as practice reading and using patterns. Sewing machines are available for each camper or you may wish to bring your own in to work on. A stitch in time saves nine!

Reader's Theater Camp
Like storytelling, reader's theater can create images by suggestion that could never be realistically portrayed on stage. Space and time can be shrunk or stretched, fantastic worlds can be created, and marvelous journeys can be enacted. Reader's theater frees the performers and the audience from the physical limitations of conventional theater, letting the imagination soar. Prepare to experience literature in a way that you may never have before. We are going to have an excellent time!

Outdoor Explorers
This is the camp that highlights the true enjoyment of summer. Campers will join UCDS Summer Spark Series Director Chad Randol and friends to explore the area in and around our beautiful city of Seattle. We will hire our very own Magic School Bus for transportation, travel to parks for free play and other activities, go on hikes, swim at different beaches, and eat ice cream! There will be a field trip every day!

Do you want to extend your child's day at camp with before or after care? Our Extended Day Program (EDP) is for you! EDP is divided into morning and afternoon programs; morning EDP will start your child's day at 7:30 am, and evening EDP will extend it until 6 pm.
