Heard It On The Playground:
Auction 2002, March 16th

2002 UCDS Parent Association Auction Nets $332,795!!

Funds from this year's Parent Association auction, Heard It On The Playground, netted $332,795 for projects such as the playground renovation, the Financial Aid Fund and the Teacher Support Fund.

Auction Chairs, Kris Travaglini and Gerin Suehiro would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to the many people who invested time, financial resources, and creativity to make this year's auction such an amazing success.

Because donations sometimes come in after the auction is over, the above number could change.  We'll keep you posted!

A Time To Play, A Time To Learn
by Lauren Gaylord and Leanne Bunas

"People say recess is just for kids to have fun - but actually we learn stuff."  Wise words from a UCDS third grader.   Much is learned on the playground - the accomplishment felt after mastering the monkey bars cannot be underestimated.  Recess is the chance to meet new friends and teach them the rules of favorite games like four square and 'bump'.  Negotiating the use of play equipment and working out conflicting activities happen every day.  Science also occurs as kids explore the outdoors.  As one South Campus scientist explained, "Once, me and my friend put sand in a pan and put in a tiny bit of water.  When we came out after lunch we got a small measuring shovel and a big one and felt it and we had made wet cement!"

Proceeds from both the 2001 Auction and this year's Heard It On The Playground auction will be used to fund a wonderful new play space for all UCDS students.

The paths of imagination and intellect run wild outdoors, alternately intersecting and diverging. Connections are made on these journeys of joyful discovery - learning happens! Plans to expand these opportunities to play, create, imagine, socialize, and learn will come together in the new North Campus playground!
