Lights, Camera, Auction!:
Auction 2000

The 2000 Parent Association Auction: Lights, Camera, Auction! was a fabulous success! Parents and guests joined UCDS faculty and staff at the Atrium on Saturday, March 18, 2000 for a night of fine dining, socializing, and fundraising.  Special thanks go to the auction committee and its chairs, Jane Caron, Elana Lim, Sally Revere, and Susan Michaels.  Of the $247,000 raised, $200,000 will fund school projects.  Twenty-five percent of the $200,000 will be used to update and maintain previous auction purchases, including science kits, the library and other classroom items.  The paddles flew up when it was time to raise funds for financial aid and the total crested $38,500.  Auction participants also purchased new art and a set of encyclopedias for the library and an additional $2,000 for new books.  Next time you are at the North Campus, visit the library and marvel at the new art pieces, and watch the children using the new encyclopedias to research their favorite topic.

Lights Camera, Auction! featured an exciting variety of items.  There was something for everyone including tickets to the opera and Mariners games, and visits to Salmon Beach and Whistler.  The auction also featured one-of-a-kind artworks, personal ski lessons, tickets and sideline passes for a Husky game, and made-to-order parties.  New this year was the Super Silent auction which featured very popular "Almost Live" items such as a basketball autographed by the UCDS 4th-5th grade girls basketball team, a wooden playhouse theater complete with puppets, and a weeklong stay at a cabin in the San Juan Islands.

Classroom projects are always a special part of the UCDS auction and this year, these creative and memorable projects raised nearly $30,000.  Teachers, students and parents worked together for several months to create these wonderful items, many of which featured the school's 1999/2000 theme of Balance.  Those of us in the school every day watched with great interest the evolution of each class's project and how they balanced them with art, poetry, music, puzzles, and glass.  Like every year, the classroom projects generated some of the most spirited bidding of the evening.  And like every year, the real winners of the auction were the UCDS students.
