Admission Process
Please contact our Admission Office at (206)547-8237 if you are relocating to the Seattle area this summer and are looking for school options for fall 2010.
The list below details all of the steps that must be completed for a child to be considered for admission.
- Attend a current year school tour.
- Complete the initial admission application form.
- Submit the remaining admission materials including the Parent Questionnaire, the Teacher Recommendation and your child's test results (ages five and older). All applicants must have a Teacher Recommendation. A day care provider, nanny or other instructor may complete the form only in the event your child does not currently have a teacher. UCDS uses testing information as one of many ways to get to know your child. We do not employ a score cut off for admission. For more information on testing please contact the Admission Office. If applying for 1st through 5th grade, submit the Transcript Request form to your child's current school. Your child's file must be complete by Monday, February 1, 2010.
- Schedule a school visit for your child. Once you have attended a tour and submitted your initial application, the UCDS admission office will contact you to set up a visit for your child. The visit days for our Early Elementary Program are February 5, February 6, and February 27, 2010. School visits for the Elementary Program will be held in January and February during a regular school day.
- Attend a parent interview. The Admission Office will contact you to schedule an appointment that follows your child's school visit. This is an opportunity for you to tell us about your child and ask any questions you may still have. If you would like to use an interpreter at the interview, please make this request at the time of scheduling.
Age Requirements
Our Early Elementary Program's Half Day and Full Day preschool is designed for three-, four- and five-year-old children. Children must be three years old by June 1, 2010 to begin preschool. To apply for Kindergarten, children must be at least five years old by June 1, 2010.
Financial Aid
Financial aid need is determined in strict confidentiality by the UCDS Financial Aid Committee. We are assisted in this process by the School and Student Service (SSS) for Financial Aid in Princeton, NJ. The committee makes its determinations through an analysis of the SSS application and parent tax returns. All admission decisions are completed before financial aid applications are considered. Once a child is accepted to UCDS, the Financial Aid Committee then determines whether a student qualifies for an award and how much will be granted for the academic year. Financial Aid applications are due by February 12, 2010.
Testing
UCDS uses standardized-test results to help compile an overall picture of your child as a learner. Test scores help us think about a student's strengths and challenges and aid us in building academic balance and diversity into our program. We have no minimum score requirement for application to the school. To apply for the 2010-11 school year, any child who is five by June 1st, 2010 must be tested. For children six and under, the WPPSI-III or Stanford-Binet V is the most appropriate test. The WISC-IV should be given to children over six.
