Make an Authentic Lewis & Clark Journal

Materials: 1 1/2 foot piece of leather(soft cow hide works the best) Thick thread(one spool, but you only need about 2 ft.) One needle(big holed needle prefered) 5 pieces of standard 8 1/2 by 11 paper 2 ft.twine 1 very small stick

Poke three fairly large holes in paper and leather. Be sure to leave flap for lock.

Thread the string through the middle hole and then loop under to the top hole.

From top hole go up and over middle to the bottom hole. Then tie.

Cut slit in flap.

Thread the twine through the slit in flap and then take the end of the twine through the slit in the twine and stick the stick in the loop.

Lock by wrapping around book once and then the stick several times with the twine left the end.

Enjoy writing in your finished journal!
