Fort Clatsop near Astoria, Oregon

Fort Clatsop was the last fort where the Corps of Discovery would stay until their journey home to St. Louis. Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery spent the winter at Fort Clatsop. In April, 1999 the 2nd floor classes of our school traveled to Fort Clatsop National Park for an overnight camping trip. The Fort Clatsop we saw is a remake of the old Fort that is placed about where they found remains of the old Fort.

shipwreck at beachOn our trip to Fort Clatsop we went to a beach and saw a chipwreck near where Lewis and Clark would have seen the whale.

We went to a museum to see things Lewis and Clark might have had. model of Fort Clatsop

Lewis and Clark River

We hiked down from the Fort and saw the Lewis and Clark River, took pictures of us in real canoes, and found out how high above sea level the fort was.

While we were at the Fort we did many activities such as quill pen writing, guard duty, flint and steel fires, candlemaking, and learning about furs.
